Colchester United’s concerning Sky Bet League Two form continued to haunt them as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat at promotion-hopefuls, Port Vale.

James Gibbons struck as early as the sixth minute for the home side and it was 2-0 soon after, James Wilson finding the net from inside the box to all but kill the contest inside just over a quarter of an hour.

Aaron Martin added a third just after the hour – profiting from good work by Tom Conlon.

Frank Nouble and Noah Chilvers provided Colchester’s best moments, but while Vale recorded their seventh win in ten matches, the U’s slipped to their fifth defeat of the campaign, leaving them in nineteenth place.

Colchester United return to Sky Bet League Two action on Tuesday, October 26 when Sutton United visit the JobServe Community Stadium (7:45pm).
