Colchester part company with boss Mullins

Sky Bet League Two strugglers, Colchester United have confirmed the departure of boss, Hayden Mullins and his assistant, Alex Dyer following a run of seven league matches without a victory.

The announcement comes just a day after the U’s were beaten by a stoppage-time goal at Sutton United. The result left the North Essex club hovering precariously one place above the relegation zone.

The club has appointed Wayne Brown in an interim role. U’s fans have been particularly vocal in their criticism of Mullins and Chairman, Robbie Cowling in recent weeks. A statement posted by Cowling explained;

I want to make it clear that the responsibility for our current league position lies with everyone involved, both on and off the pitch, and I include myself in that. Everyone remaining must shoulder some of that responsibility individually and collectively.

Dave Huzzey and Joe Dunne will assist Brown. Colchester United return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, January 22 when they face Salford City at the Peninsula Stadium (3pm).
