Colchester United ensured their Sky Bet League Two status with a resounding 4-1 victory over Sutton United at the JobServe Community Stadium.

In in-form North Essex side are finishing the season with a flourish. However, they fell behind when David Ajiboye netted from close range to give Sutton a shock lead.

But Colchester’s improvement since Christmas has been remarkable and they showed further evidence of their revival with three goals before the interval.

Luke Chambers was on-hand to level the score before John Akinde turned teh contest on its head with a second six minutes later.

And the game was already up for Sutton when Junior Tchamadeu fired a third, right-footed, to give the U’s total control.

Noah Chilvers profited from Samson Tovide’s toil after the interval to make it four, and with Hartlepool United slipping to defeat against Crawley Town, Colchester could celebrate safety with two games to spare.

Colchester United return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, April 29 when they face Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium (3pm).
