Concord soar closer to Wembley final

Concord Rangers 2-1 Royston Town
(after extra-time)

CONCORD RANGERS booked a place in the Buildbase FA Trophy semi-finals following a dramatic extra-time victory over Royston Town at the Aspect Arena on Tuesday evening.

Joel Nouble sent supporters on the Canvey-based club wild with delight when he opened the scoring ten minutes before the break. And the home crowd were again in raptures shortly after when Concord goalkeeper, Chris Haig, saved a penalty from Matt Bateman after Adam Murray had been fouled by Aron Pollock

Nevertheless, Royston – backed by a sizable away following – were on terms shortly before the hour. Luke Warner-Eley firing home after Josh Castiglione had fashioned an opening.

A tense second period was unable to separate the sides – gunning for a two-legged last-four tie with Halesowen Town. But an extra thirty minutes proved decisive for the home side.

Decarrey Sheriff had only just arrived as a substitute. However, the Beach Boys man provided a cool finish shortly after the game had restarted, sparking wild scenes of delight as the prospect of a Wembley final moved a giant step closer.
