On Saturday December 12, Labour councillor for St Laurence ward in Southend, Daniel Cowan, donated a Christmas Tree to the Ekco Park Estate which has been placed by the statue of Ecko factory founder Eric Cole on Cole Avenue.
The tree is on public display and residents are encouraged to decorate the community tree with a decoration from their own homes.
Cllr Cowan said: “This has been a tremendously challenging year and I wanted to show my appreciation for those who so generously donated to my collection of advent calendars and selection boxes for the Women’s Refuge, Family Hostel Service and foodbanks.
“A real difference has been made and I wanted to make a gesture that highlights our togetherness and strong community spirit.
“This tree will serve as a reminder of that with every decoration that is placed on its branches.”
In total, over 200 advent calendars and selection boxes have been collected and donated to worthy causes.
