Couple assaulted in Southend

Officers investigating an incident near the aquarium in Southend are appealing for witnesses and any footage.

Police were called shortly before 6.30pm on Wednesday April 19 to reports of an assault that took place at Eastern Esplanade.

A couple reported that a man and woman approached them at the location and began verbally abusing them and assaulted them before leaving.

It was reported that a third person, a man, also approached the couple and began shouting at them.

The incident is being treated as a racially aggravated assault and believe this may have been captured on the mobile phones of people in the area at the time.
