Colchester United v Crawley Town – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Tuesday 7pm – Preview
I think it’s fair to say that Ray Crawford was left stunned by Colchester United’s 6-1 Sky Bet League Two thrashing at Exeter City.
A woeful defensive performance saw the U’s conceded five second-half goals to the West Countrymen – the result leaving Steve Ball’s side treading water in midtable ahead of back-to-back home fixtures with Crawley Town and Grimsby Town.
“I’d have loved playing against a defence as poor as we were at Exeter,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“No leadership, no marking, I’d have filled my boots – We need to be improving, and quickly!
“I would imagine there were some stern words exchanged in the dressing room after the game. It needed to be out in the open, see who will stand up and be counted. The good thing is, we now have these games to put things right.”
Crawley Town – FA Cup conquerors of AFC Wimbledon, but without a win in four league outings – visit the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday evening: “I’d like to think the boys won’t let anything like that happen again,” Crawford added.
“We’ve not been too bad – one or two blips – but the team have usually bounced back. I think this time it will be a test of character simply because of the size of the defeat.
“Certainly, it gives the team a chance to put their house back in order before the fans come back on Saturday. They must come back and see a confident team – one faction lifts the other.”
Crawford added: “I’m always a confident person and will back the team whenever I can. I think the manager and players will have cleared the air after Exeter and I expect us to get back on track with a narrow win.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-0 Crawley Town
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 2-2 Crawley Town
