Crawford calls for a consistent Colchester

Colchester United v Morecambe – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Saturday 3pm – Preview

Ray Crawford was left frustrated following Colchester United’s midweek defeat at Cambridge United and has questioned the desire of Steve Ball’s side ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Morecambe at the JobServe Community Stadium.

“Just when you start to think we are getting it right, a spanner is thrown in the works with a disappointing performance and result like Tuesday,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“I know we are in League Two for a reason and understand that Colchester United won’t win every game, but the performance was limp – you have to question the desire in that case.

“I think the group we have are capable of challenging for promotion, but you don’t have too much room for errors if you are going to achieve that.

“Perhaps it’s the mindset? Whatever it is, it has to change.”

Colchester now face a Morecambe side fresh from a win over Leyton Orient and themselves amongst the play-off contenders: “We mustn’t allow Morecambe to bully us,” Crawford added.

“They have a style which works for them and is getting results. I think they were looked at as relegation contenders at the start of the season. That alone is motivating them.

“I’m sure harsh words were exchanged after Tuesday night. But if this is happening every three or four matches then we are simply going round in circles.

“As ever, I’ll back the boys to get it right. They don’t have a choice if they want to maintain a serious push for the top seven places.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-0 Morecambe
