Colchester United v Oldham Athletic – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Saturday (3pm) – Preview
Ray Crawford is fully expecting Colchester United to build on their unbeaten Sky Bet League Two start when struggling Oldham Athletic are the visitors to the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday.
The U’s have picked up five points from nine on offer and have looked organised and resourceful during the opening weeks of the season. And Crawford believed those commodities would be far too much for a Latics side that has lost all three league fixtures to date.
“I can’t see anything other than a home victory,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“Again, we looked quite solid at Barrow. Admittedly, we rode out luck when they hit the post but it’s another point which and it keeps us in touch with the leading group of teams.
“Once again, we must take the bull by the horns this week. When you play a team who are down on their luck, you have to get at them from the off. Oldham will be low on confidence – an early goal will knock that further.
“But I think we need to look beyond the three points. We need to get three or four goals against someone to send out a message. We have that opportunity at the weekend.”
Crawford added: “I think we are seeing a pattern emerge where most of the teams at the bottom will remain there throughout the season. It’s up to us to ensure we take maximum points off all of those teams – build momentum and get points on the board a quickly as possible.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 3-0 Oldham Athletic
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 3-1 Oldham Athletic
