Colchester United v Carlisle United – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Saturday (3pm) – Preview
Ray Crawford was impressed with Colchester United’s battling qualities but remained concerned over defensive frailties following their 3-2 defeat at Northampton Town.
Speaking to Yellow Sport ahead of the U’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Carlisle United at the JobServe Community Stadium, the former frontman said: “It was gutting to lose after twice coming from behind. A point at Northampton would have been terrific.
“Ahead of the game, I’d mentioned that we looked fragile. Conceding in the last minute won’t have done the boys’ confidence any good after they’d fought so hard. Admittedly, we did better than I expected, but either way, it’s no points. We need to put that right on Saturday.”
Colchester now hosts a Carlisle side boosted by a 1-0 opening day victory over Crawley Town at Brunton Park.
“The stats suggest that Carlisle should have won by a far greater margin.,” Crawford added.
“They had 23 shots, nine on target. I’d imagine they will be very direct and will try to out-muscle us. We need to be a lot stronger.
“Colchester must target this game. If you end up losing your first three or four games it can be very difficult to regain momentum. I think we have goals in us. I’m sticking my neck out and backing us. But defensively, we need to be much better.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-0 Carlisle United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 1-1 Carlisle United
