Colchester United v Cheltenham Town – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Tuesday 7:45pm – Preview
Three successive defeat – Without a win in four – Sky Bet Lague Two play-off ambitions currently twenty-five miles west of Venus – It’s been a troubling couple of weeks for Steve Ball and Colchester United and there doesn’t appear to be a direct root out of it either!
Ray Crawford has remained positive and upbeat throughout his time summarising on the U’s fortunes, but even he is baffled by the clubs’ current lack of form and spark.##
“We already appear to be flat and rudderless,” the former Colchester frontman told Yellow Sport.
“We get out-fought easily and have very little muscle in the side. Southend and Morecambe got in our faces and made it tough from the first whistle. There wasn’t any bravery from Colchester and we were beaten far easier than the scoreline suggested on both occasions.
“I’ve always backed the players, but there comes a point where the evidence is pretty damning. Results and performances have been poor of late. Whether that is wholly down to the manager or players will always be up for debate. Ultimately, they all need to take their share of the responsibility.
“I understand the financial implications led to the likes of Luke Prosser and Frank Nouble’s departure, but the fact of the matter is we haven’t replaced them adequately and could actually do with their presence in the team right now.”
Looking ahead to the U’s clash with Cheltenham Town, Crawford added: “They are up towards the top but haven’t won in three. The minimum requirement from Colchester is to stand up to them and not to be bullied.
“The fans are not foolish. They know hard work and endeavour when they see it, and they have the right to be upset when they see the team not competing. I would like to think there was a serious inquest after Morecambe and particularly Southend. The proof will be on Tuesday night when we see which Colchester turn up?”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-1 Cheltenham Town
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 0-1 Cheltenham Town
