Harrogate Town v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – The EnviroVent Stadium – Tuesday 7pm – Preview
If you blinked, you missed it. Colchester United saw off Carlisle United by the odd goal in three to end their wretched fourteen-match winless Sky Bet League Two sequence, then undone that smidgin of good work with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Newport County.
Certainly, the impressive visitors bossed the match from start to finish, but Colchester – still hovering dangerously just above the dropzone – hardly laid a glove on the Welsh outfit all afternoon.
“I just can’t pinpoint where this season has gone so badly wrong?” former U’s frontman, Ray Crawford, told Yellow Sport.
“The performance suggested a team lacking energy, enthusiasm and quality. They are professional footballers, but that performance didn’t do the term any justice.
“We didn’t get a shot on target until an hour into the match. That’s not good enough, particularly at home. Whether players are simply going through the motions, knowing they are not going to be with the club next season, or perhaps have lost their spark, they still need to be offering up more than they did on Saturday.”
Colchester now heads to Harrogate where they will face a side with an outside chance of the play-offs and keen to bounce back following a defeat at the hands of Stevenage at the weekend: “We won’t be going there as favourites,” Crawford added.
“They will be in our faces, seeing this as an opportunity for three points. We’ve got to start standing up to teams and not making it so easy.
“Harrogate were a little unlucky to lose at Stevenage. They enjoyed most of the ball and created more chances. On another day, they get something. Now we will have to match their effort and desire, otherwise, we will get rolled over.
“In all honesty, I don’t see a positive outcome for Colchester. The team appear out of sorts on so many levels. I think we need another four wins to avoid relegation, but I don’t see one coming on Tuesday night.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Harrogate Town 2-0 Colchester United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Harrogate Town 2-1 Colchester United
