Crawford’s concerned that U’s duo have too much to do

Colchester United v Doncaster Rovers – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Tuesday (7:45pm) – Preview

Ray Crawford expressed his concern that Colchester United’s recent struggles are catching up with them and that surviving relegation will be a close-run thing as we enter the final furlongs of the Sky Bet League Two campaign.

The U’s were beaten at Barrow over the weekend, leaving them just two points above the dropzone: “It’s a major worry,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“We are harder to beat and you can see that the Cowley brothers have improved us in some areas, but that might not be enough.

“Of course, it is better to be the team outside the relegation zone, as opposed to being in it, but unless we start winning matches soon, then we are dropping into the bottom two with time running out.”

The U’s host Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday evening: “Rovers have picked up of late and appear to be almost safe,” Crawford added.

“We seem to be stranded in a league of four with Sutton, Forest Green and Grimsby, which was something.

“I know we have games in hand, but that’s no good if you aren’t winning. The pressure is on and questions are being asked whether we are up to the task in hand.

“Colchester’s struggles have been well documented in recent seasons. I’ve always said that it could catch up with us if the right steps weren’t taken.

“Ironically, I think the appointment, ent of Danny and Nicky is the best the club have made in some time. I just hope they haven’t been left with too much to do.”
