Newport County v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Rodney Parade – Tuesday 7pm – Preview
Ray Crawford believes Colchester United have proved in their last couple of Sky Bet League Two matches that they have enough about them to make life uncomfortable for leaders, Newport County, at Rodney Parade on Tuesday evening.
Colchester dug deep for their six points from home matches with Forest Green Rovers and Harrogate Town, and the former frontman has called for similar resolve against the high-flying Welshman.
“I think we have enough to frustrated them,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“Newport are good at what they do – defending a lead. They don’t concede too many goals, but if you take the blips against Oldham and Carlisle away, neither do we.
“Defensively, Colchester have been excellent in the last two games and that has been a big factor in helping us to six points. There’s no reason why we can do a similar job at Newport and come away with something.”
Crawford added: “Newport will be favourites, particularly after they won so convincingly at Bradford City on Saturday. But I don’t think Colchester should go there in fear.
“I’ve said it before. Marshalled by Tommy Smith and Tom Eastman, we are a really well-organised side. And with the likes of Callum Harriott, Ben Stevenson, Harry Pell and Jevani Brown, Colchester themselves have plenty to occupy any side in this division.
“I think we are capable of at least a point and I expect us to get one.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Newport County 0-0 Colchester United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Newport County 2-0 Colchester United
