Crawford confident that U’s can extend their unbeaten league sequence

Walsall v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Banks’s Stadium – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Ray Crawford predicted a share of the spoils for Colchester United and he is expecting much the same when the U’s take on Walsall at the Banks’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The improving U’s extended their unbeaten Sky Bet League Two sequence to three matches at Valley Parade, edging them seven points clear of the dropzone: “It was a terrific point on the road, but we could have taken all three,” the former Colchester frontman told Yellow Sport.

“We look so much tighter at the back. The team seem to be a little more confident in what they are doing. The managers’ message now appears to be getting across to the players.”

Crawford continued: “I’m expecting a similar sort of contest against Walsall. They are another club that perhaps arn’t achieving what their supporters expect from them.

“A win in the West Midlands would draw us level on points with the Saddlers in midtable. If that can be achieved, all of a sudden you are only two or three victories off challenging for a play-off place. I know we mustn’t get carried away with ourselves. Equally. two or three defeats and we are back in trouble. But there are signs of improvement in the group.

“Walsall have only won one of their last five and will be under a bit of pressure, similarly to Bradford. Once again, I don’t think we have anything to fear. I think we will come home with something, keeping the unbeaten run going and raising the confidence and perhaps expectations that this team are capable of something.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Walsall 1-1 Colchester United
