Colchester United v Leyton Orient – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Saturday 3pm – Preview
Ray Crawford believes Colchester United’s record derby victory over Southend United during the week has provided the perfect tonic following their Emirates FA Cup disappointments against marine.
The U’s thrashed their Essex rivals by six goals to one in a hugely one-sided Papa Johns Trophy clash during the week, setting them up nicely ahead of what promises to be a far harder test against Leyton Orient at the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday.
“Colchester had to make a point, they had to recover some pride and they had to show the supporters what they can do,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“I know Southend are a poor side at the moment and they don’t possess many experienced players, but you can only beat what is put in front of you and you have to be honest and professional. That is exactly what the players provided.
Looking ahead to another derby, this time with the O’s, Crawford added: “We are all aware it will be a much harder game. Orient have their own recent disappointments to get over. They will be keen for a return to winning ways and with the likes of Jobi McAnuff and Danny Johnson, they have players capable of hurting you.
“But we must focus on our own assets. Jovani Brown is in sparkling form at the moment. Two hat-tricks in a week is very impressive. If he’s given the service, he will score plenty of goals, something I’m fully aware of having played as a forward throughout my career.
“I always try to back the U’s and this one is no exception. I think it will be close but I see the U’s winning this one, perhaps by a single goal.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-0 Leyton Orient
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 3-2 Leyton Orient
