Colchester United v Stevenage – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Tuesday 7pm – Preview
An unscheduled weekend off gave Steve Ball and his Colchester United side time to take stock, grab a rest and prepare for the rigmarole of Tuesday/Saturday fixtures again.
Home comforts are immediately on the horizon for the U’s, with struggling Stevenage visiting in Sky Bet League Two, then Northern Premier League Marine FC heading to North Essex on Saturday.
The games offer Colchester an opportunity to rebuild momentum following late defeat at Newport County last time out and former frontman, ray Crawford is expecting nothing less from the U’s over the next few days.
“Let’s be perfectly honest, Colchester should be winning both of these games,” he told Yellow Sport.
“The defeat at Newport was frustrating because we were so close to coming away with a point. But it was a reasonable performance, although they had a lot more chances than we did.
“Stevenage will be a different challenge. They’ve had a couple of goalless draws, suggesting they’ll be difficult to break down – something we shouldn’t be surprised about what with Luke Prosser at the heart of their defence.
“But it’s a home game. A chance to get at one of the teams towards the bottom, a chance to close the gap on the play-off places. I expect us to grab that chance with both hands.”
“Crawford continued: “Home form has been very good. The players will be keen to keep that particular unbeaten tag. That, coupled with getting last weeks disappointment out of our system should spur us on enough.
“We have some quality in this side and have goals in us. I fully expect us to get three points on Tuesday night, then make cup progress on Saturday afternoon.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 2-0 Stevenage
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 1-0 Stevenage
