Crawford is confident that U’s can extend their unbeaten sequence

Colchester United v Crawley Town – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Ray Crawford is expecting Colchester United to extend their unbeaten Sky Bet League Two sequence to five matches when Crawley Town visit the JobSeve Community Stadium on Saturday.

The former frontman was thrilled with the U’s 3-2 victory at Barrow last Friday, a result which catapulted the North Essex outfit into the top half of the table, a couple of points shy of the play-off places.

“It was a terrific result,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“The performance proved that we have goals in the team. Colchester also showed resilience, both coming from behind, then putting in a shift after Luke Chambers had been sent off.

“The league table made much better reading, It’s nice to be optimistically eyeing up those above you as opposed to anxiously glancing at what is underneath.”

Nevertheless, Crawford believes Crawley will provide a tough test for his former club: “They probably believe they should be higher up the league and will know one win can change everything at this stage.

“But they have conceded a few. I think our newfound creativity, which was evident at Barrow, will serve us well at the weekend.

“Colchester have appeared more solid and united as a group since Hayden Mullins took the top job. We are capable defensively and I think the addition of Armando Dobra, complimenting Frank Nouble and Freddie Sears, gives us that extra edge that might have been missing at the start of the season.

“I’m remaining positive and expect a home win.”
