Colchester United v Carlisle United – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Tuesday 7pm – Preview
I think it’s fair to say that the situation at Colchester United is now pretty desperate right now.
Without a win in fifteen Sky Bet League Two matches, sinking like the proverbial stone and showing little or no signs of arresting a slump which has seen them slip from the cusp of the play-off places to within a whisker of the relegation zone in less than three months.
Nobody at the club seems to hold the answers as to how this monumental collapse has come about. And more to the point, have they any idea how to get out of it?
“I’d love to see Colchester turn it around and pick up some points this week, but I just can’t see it,” former frontman, Ray Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“We look punchdrunk and waiting for the inevitable. It’s a very sad situation and the supporters deserve much better.
“We got taken apart by a team who played half the game with ten men on Saturday. It wasn’t so much a bad day at the office, it was embarrassing. I know Forest Green are a good side and appreciate they were fired up after losing to Southend. But they didn’t have to work for it.
“As much as Colchester supporters won’t want to hear it, I’m seeing fight down the road at Southend. A team I thought would go down. They don’t possess the best group of players in the league, but they are giving in 100% – trying to match whoever they play. We need to start doing exactly that before it’s too late.”
Crawford turned his attention to the visit of Carlisle United: “They haven’t won any of their last five matches, but I’d imagine they are rubbing their hands ahead of this one,” he added.
“Wayne Brown has now had a week to assess the situation, have a good look at what he has and decide on his best options. All I can say is that I’d rather him than me right now.
“Before you even think about winning a game of football, you need to possess passion, heart and fight. I’m not seeing any of that at Colchester United right now which saddens me deeply.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 0-2 Carlisle United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 1-2 Carlisle United
