Crawley Town v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Broadfield Stadium – Tuesday (7:45pm) – Preview

Ray Crawford fancied Colchester United to get something at Salford City and he was right. Noah Chilvers scored the all-important goal midway through the opening half to move the U’s six points clear of the dropzone with four matches to play.

“We’ve been terrific this past couple of weeks,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“Two clean sheets for the young lad Tom Smith, five goals and six points. If only we could have started all this back in July!

“But let’s be positive. The two most recent managerial appointments have made a big difference. We were always competitive but didn’t have enough about us to challenge towards the top half of the table. That has begun to change. Now, it is all about keeping our best players, adding to the squad and ensuring this positivity rolls on into next season.”

Crawford continued: “The wins over Crewe and Salford showed different aspects of our improvement. Creative and ruthless against Crewe, defensively sound and solid at Salford. Produce this regularly and we have the makings of a promotion-winning team. Let’s hope that is the case.”

Colchester head to Crawley Town on Tuesday evening. A win could all but secure their league status, although Crawley, themselves struggling one place above the relegation places, desperately need the points as well: “It’s a huge match,” The former frontman added.

“Both sides need the three points, but a win for the U’s will give us clear daylight. I think our mindset will be on winning the game. I also think there is an air of confidence about us right now.

“I’ve no doubt it will be a battle. A scrappy match. But I think we have proved this past couple of weeks that we have enough quality to go there and get the job done.

“I think we’ll be alright, but I’m backing the U’s to almost secure it on Tuesday night.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Crawley Town 0-1 Colchester United
