The Old Boys looked set to progress after goals from Nathan Elgie and Mitch Ali had handed them a seemingly unassailable advantage. However, the visitors hit back through Joshua Owoaje and substitute Gideon Sengulay before holding their nerve from twelve yards.

Old Boys boss, Altan Ali, was naturally left frustrated: “It is a big disappointment,” he told Yellow Sport.

“At 2-0, I’d like to think we have enough to control and see the game out. But Manford Way refused to give the tie up. All credit to them. We can only blame ourselves.”

Old Southendian hit the woodwork on three occasions: “Another day, those chances go in. We have scored a lot of goals this season. Today wasn’t to be our day,” Ali added.
