Dagenham & Redbridge v Dover Athletic – Vanarama National League – Chigwell Construction Stadium – Report
Dagenham & Redbridge 3-1 Dover Athletic
Dagenham & Redbridge moved back into the Vanarama National League play-off places following a comfortable victory over struggling Dover Athletic at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.
While the Daggers went into the game in decent form, rock-bottom Dover arrived in East London without a win in twenty-three league outings and already looking set for relegation following a torrid opening half to their season.
Exchanged attempts from Henry Wood and Angelo Balanta rather summed up the opening twenty minutes – wild and wayward with very little in the way of quality.
Daggers stopper, Elliot Justham produced a decent save to deny Ben Williamson. But with the first eyecatching moment of the game, Junior Morais fizzed an unstoppable right-footed strike beyond the fingertips of Alexis Andre to hand the home side the lead.
Justham sprang to his left to turn away another Williamson attempt as Dover doggedly searched for a response. But before they could make any real headway, Josh Walker cut in onto his left foot before unleashing an unstoppable shot high into the net to double the Daggers advantage.
Dover had offered very little. However, four minutes after the restart, Alfie Pavey arrived unmarked to head past the stranded Justham and remind the Daggers that they still had plenty to do.
But the Kent side were soon to be breached again. Myles Weston arrived to sweep home following a flowing move down the left. The Daggers two-goal advantage swiftly restored.
Andre produced a wonderful save to deny Matt Robinson, while Mauro Vilhere was too high, but the expected avalanche of goals for the hosts wasn’t forthcoming.
This was the Daggers fourth league victory on the spin, moving them up to fifth in the table. They return to Vanarama National League action on Saturday, January 8, when they face Torquay United at Plainmoor (3pm).
