Daggers brushed aside by unstoppable Chesterfield

Dagenham & Redbridge 1 Chesterfield 2

Runaway Vanarama National League leaders Chesterfield extended their at the top to 22 points following a 2-1 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge – their eleventh away win of the season – at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

The Spireites went 1-0 up just after the half hour mark when after Ollie Banks shot rebounded back to him, James Berry tucked the loose ball past keeper Elliot Justham to make it 1-0.

Daggers were back on level terms in the 54th minute when Josh Rees freed Ryan Hill to fire low into the bottom corner past Harry Tyrer.

Minutes later, referee Stephen Parkinson awarded Chesterfield a penalty after Jeff King was brought to ground in the area – only for Banks’ spot kick to bounce back off the crossbar.

With 15 minutes to go, Armando Dobra poked the ball into the net from close range whilst laying on the floor following a goalmouth scramble to make it 2-1 to Chesterfield and whilst Inih Effiong’s effort following a free kick went close for the Daggers near the end, the Spireites saw out time to clinch the win – a victory that now leaves Paul Cook’s side requiring 22 points from a possible 45 to make it mathematically certain of being promoted as champions.
