Daggers fightback

Bromley v Dagenham & Redbridge – Vanarama National League – Hayes Lane – Report

Despite having trailed by two goals to Vanarama National League promotion hopefuls Bromley, Josh Rees’s equaliser deep into stoppage time saw Dagenham & Redbridge grab a late point in a 2-2 draw at Hayes Lane.

Daggers suffered an early blow when Frank Vincent was substituted after only seventeen minutes after being injured following an awkward fall, but they were unfortunate not to take the lead early on after Ryan Hill’s effort struck the post. Just moments later, Rees had the ball in the Bromley net only for the ‘goal’ to be ruled out for offside.

Just before half-time, Ben Krauhaus’s clipped ball found Bes Topalloj to put Bromley one up before Michael Cheek made it 2-0 in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage-time.

Following the resumption, Freddie Sears’ spectacular volley was superbly denied by Bromley keeper Grant Smith and at the other end, Elliot Justham pulled off a fine save to deny Olufela Olomola at the near post.

With twenty minutes left, Hill’s cross found Sam Ling at the back post to head powerfully into the bottom corner and pull one back for the visitors.

Following the goal, Daggers threw everything into attack in search of an equaliser – with Sears and Hill both going close but with the clock ticking down and Bromley looking ever likely to hang on to claim the win, the East Londoners were awarded a last gasp free kick and from the ensuing goalmouth scramble, former Ravens striker Rees – who had two separate spells at Hayes Lane during both the 2017/18 and 2019/20 seasons – slammed home the equaliser to snatch a dramatic point at the death.

The draw leaves second-placed Bromley nineteen points behind leaders Chesterfield, whilst the Daggers remain in eleventh place.

Next up for Dagenham & Redbridge in the Vanarama National League is the visit of FC Halifax Town to the Chigwell Construction Stadium on Saturday.
