Daggers lose five-goal thriller at Woking

Woking v Dagenham & Redbridge – Vanarama National League – Laithwaite Community Stadium – Report

Woking 3-2 Dagenham & Redbridge

Woking moved five points clear of the drop zone as two late goals by Kevin Berkow and substitute Jayden Lukerto saw the Cards through to a battling 3-2 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge at the Laithwaite Community Stadium

Ben Strevens made just one change to the Daggers’ starting line-up following their 1-1 draw with Ebbsfleet United on Easter Monday with Josh Hare replacing the injured David Longe-King.

The Cards took the lead when Jermaine Anderson fired home in the fifth minute after the Dagenham backline failed to adequately deal with a long free kick into the box, however, the visitors restored parity ten minutes in when Josh Rees’s flick found Ryan Hill to slot home past Working keeper Will Jaaskelainen to make it 1-1.

Daggers went within a whisker of taking the lead after Hare’s header from Jake Hessenthaler’s cross was cleared off the line by captain Scott Cuthbert only for Inih Effiong, Hill and Rees to all then go close just before half-time.

Woking took the lead in the eighty-fifth minute when Lukerto threaded the ball through to Berkoe to lift the ball over Daggers keeper Elliot Justham to make it 2-1 via the crossbar and three minutes into stoppage time, Lukerto added Woking’s third with a curling strike into the top left-hand corner from just outside the box.

Sub Conor Lawless reduced the deficit with a lovely curling effort into the bottom corner in the fifth minute of stoppage time but it was all too little, too late for the East Londoners as Woking played out the final stages with the minimum of fuss to clinch the win.

Up next for Dagenham & Redbridge in the Vanarama National League is a trip to Victoria Park to play Hartlepool United on Saturday (3pm).
