Dagenham & Redbridge v Torquay United – Victoria Road – Vanarama National League – Saturday 3pm

MANAGERLESS DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE remain in danger towards the bottom of the Vanarama National League. However, Jody Brown – looking after first-team affairs along with Terry Harris following the departure of PeterTaylor – insisted there was plenty to be enthusiastic about following his injury-hit sides 1-1 draw at Ebbsfleet United.

Will Wright’s late strike ensured Dagenham a vital point – this after a mix-up between Elliot Justham and Toby Stevenson allowed Alex Reid to give the Kent side a sixth-minute lead.

And Brown was keen to see the Daggers build on that platform when unpredictable Torquay United are the visitors to Victoria Road on Saturday.

“I think we have to take all those positives,” Brown told www.daggers.co.uk.

“There was a lot of positives in the first half as well. You really can’t legislate for Elliott’s error – that’s not me hounding Elliot, he’s brilliant, we know he’s brilliant and his response was brilliant, but it was an individual error which could have cost us.

“But I thought from that point on – first of all, we regrouped, steadied the ship, didn’t fall to pieces. Then we grew into the game, to a point where we controlled the game – We’ve definitely got to take that into the game (Torquay).”

Brown continued: “It will be great to be in front of the home fans – the reaction we saw from them was really positive. I’m hoping we can give them a reason to be loud – be right behind us, be proud of us come Saturday – I think that will play a big part.

“In terms of Torquay – sometimes they concede four, sometimes they score four – they are a really up and down team. Gary Johnson, he’s an outstanding manager with outstanding credentials. I’m sure he’ll be as well-prepared as anyone is ever going to be in this league to face us.

“But you never know, perhaps the fact that there is a change at the moment (of manager) maybe it will be a bit unexpected when they come up to play against us.”
