Dagenham & Redbridge v Hartlepool United – Victoria Road – Vanarama National League – Saturday (3pm)
IN-FORM Dagenham & Redbridge head into Saturday’s eagerly-anticipated Vanarama National League clash with Hartlepool United, hoping to extend their unbeaten sequence to seven matches.
Peter Taylor’s men have shrugged off an indifferent start to the campaign, most recently taking all three points from a potentially tricky trip to Maidenhead United, thanks to a James Dobson spot-kick shortly after half-time.
Speaking to www.daggers.co.uk after the match, boss Taylor explained: “I was very, very pleased with the performance. Again, it was a little bit of character because the boys were a bit down from Wednesday night, conceding such a late goal against Bromley. We were double-determined to get something better today.”
That result lifted the Daggers into tenth place in the table, just a point off the play-off places and only separated from Saturday’s opponents, Hartlepool – in ninth – on goal difference.
Last weekend’s match-winner, Dobson, spoke cautiously ahead of the Monkey Hangers visit, saying: “The games come thick and fast at the beginning of the season – It’ll be a bit tough – really.”
Meanwhile, Craig Hignett’s Hartlepool has endured a stop-start opening to their season. Nevertheless, they head south unbeaten in five outings – Like Dagenham they sit on the cusp of the top-seven, knowing they are perfectly capable of stringing together a run of results which can make them genuine promotion candidates.
