Dagenham & Redbridge v Solihull Moors – Vanarama National League – Chigwell Construction Stadium – Report
Dagenham & Redbridge 1-2 Solihull Moors
With the game being shown live on TNT Sports, Solihull Moors came from behind to take the points with a 2-1 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge at Victoria Road – a win that sees them move up into third place in the table.
Daggers were left to rue a raft of missed chances throughout the game, during which they struck the bar on three occasions.
Ben Strevens made two changes to Daggers the side that won 3-1 at Dorking Wanderers last week, with Myles Weston and David Longe-King replacing the injured Lewis Page and Frank Vincent, who missed the game through suspension.
With loanee keeper Tommy Simkin recalled by parent club Stoke City on Friday, Moors manager Andrew Whing gave Aaron Flahavan, son of former Southend United & Bournemouth keeper Darryl Flahavan, his National League debut.
Daggers started the game well, creating several early chances and almost took the lead when Freddie Sears rattled the crossbar from close range just after the half-hour mark.
The hosts pressure paid off when they took the lead in the forty-fourth minute with Tom Eastman heading home Josh Hare’s cross at the back post – only for Jay Benn’s magnificent strike in first-half stoppage time to draw the teams level going into the break.
Solihull Moors took the lead just four minutes after the restart when Josh Kelly cut inside from the left to smash a superb curling effort past Elliot Justham into the top corner to make it 2-1.
Further prolonged pressure followed and Daggers, through Hare and Sears again, struck the bar twice more in the space of only thirty seconds.
Inih Effiong almost equalised with the last chance of the match when after getting his head on the end of a corner and with Flahavan beaten, the ball was kicked off the line as Moors held on to clinch victory.
Next up for Dagenham & Redbridge is a trip to Aggborough to play Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, November 18 (3pm).
