Dagenham & Redbridge v Kidderminster Harriers – Vanarama National League – The Chigwell Construction Stadium – Report
Dagenham & Redbridge 0-1 Kidderminster Harriers
Caleb Richards’ fifty-first-minute goal proved to be the decider as Kidderminster Harriers recorded their third victory in a row – having beaten both Aldershot Town and Hartlepool United since the appointment of former Hull City and Southend United boss Phil Brown on January 10 – initially on a contract until the end of the season.
The 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge at the Chigwell Construction Stadium now moves relegation-threatened Harriers to within a single point of Woking in twentieth place.
With Daggers starting well and at a lively pace, Inih Effiong went close after brushing past the Kidderminster defence before seeing his effort deflected wide of the upright.
Just before the break, Tom Eastman’s header picked out Sam Ling at the far post, only for the former Leyton Orient man’s effort to be hacked off the line with keeper Christian Dibble beaten.
Kidderminster took the lead five minutes after the break when skipper Shane Byrne made room for himself on the by-line to cross for Caleb Richards to firmly drive the ball past goalkeeper Elliot Justham into the far corner of the net.
Despite Daggers pushing forward in search of an equaliser and exerting constant pressure on the visitors’ goal – with Josh Rees firing over and Ling again going close before sub Harry Phipps headed the East Londoners’ best chance of the game over the bar deep into stoppage time – the visitors dug in and defended their lead resolutely and were unfortunate at the end not to double their lead after substitute Kai Lissimore found himself clear on goal before opting to shoot – only to see his opportunity expertly smothered by Justham.
The loss leaves Ben Strevens’ side eighteenth in the table, just three points outside the relegation zone.
Next up for Dagenham & Redbridge is a trip to the ARMCO Arena to play Solihull Moors on Tuesday (7.45pm).
