Leicester City v West Ham United – Premier League – King Power Stadium – Sunday (Noon) – Preview
Brian Dear insisted the need for west Ham United to strengthen their squad was never more evident than displayed this week.
Inspired by two-goal Jarrod Bowen, the East Londoners put Wolverhampton Wanderers to the sword to pick up their first Premier League points of the season. However, a much-changed Hammers line-up were then turfed out of the Carabao Cup by Everton, highlighting a lack of depth, despite experience professionals being handed an opportunity on Merseyside.
“Sometimes you have to move players on, not only for the benefit of the club but also the player. I think our strongest starting eleven is really competitive. But once you start making changes, we look stale and weak. That must change because the need for a strong squad in the Premier League has never been greater than it is these days.”
West Ham now face a daunting trip to league leaders, Leicester City. Themselves off the back of an eye-opening 5-2 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
“Leicester are a good benchmark for clubs like us. They have a strong group and seem able to recover when a star name moves on. I know developing a similar framework doesn’t happen overnight. But they have proved it’s doable with the right plan in place and the determination from everyone on board to hit targets and beyond.
“I think the Wolves match suggests we have a team capable of finishing closer to the top than the bottom. But to do ‘a Leicester’ we have to think like Leicester and make steps towards that happening.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: Leicester City 3-1 West Ham United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Leicester City 2-0 West Ham United
