Manchester United v West Ham United – Premier League – Old Trafford – Sunday 7:15pm – Preview
Brian Dear believes West Ham United will head to Manchester United, confident they can compete and take something from the Old Trafford clash.
Monday evenings 2-0 victory over Leeds United elevated the Hammers into fifth place in the Premier League – two points off the Champions League places and six points behind their hosts who sit in second place.
“They will have more of the ball and are likely to create more chances, but we were in a similar scenario against Leeds and came through,” Dear told Yellow Sport.
“I know Manchester United will be a harder task, but we have learned and evolved. We shouldn’t be going there fearing them. I don’t see any reason why we can’t get a draw and remain in the hunt for a European place.
“United are a great side and will be confident after ending Man City’s winning run. But they aren’t consistent. We saw both sides of them at the London Stadium earlier in the season. I know they eventually ran out winners that day, but the first half offered enough evidence to suggest we can get at them.”
Dear continued: “It will be a blow to be without Jesse Lingard, but we still have plenty of quality all over the pitch. We are winning more often than not at the moment. The next step is to start getting regular results against the top six or seven teams consistently.
“We’ve got four points off Tottenham, three off Leicester and another three from Everton which suggests we are making progress on that front.
“Bringing something back from Old Trafford is well within us. I think the run-in is reasonably kind. Why can’t we dream?”
Brian Dear’s prediction: Manchester United 1-1 West Ham United
