Dear calls for a Hammers ruthless streak

West Ham United v Hull City – Carabao Cup third round – London Stadium – Tuesday 7:30pm – Preview

Brian Dear thought West Ham United were unlucky to leave the Emirates Stadium empty-handed at the weekend. However, the former frontman insisted his former side need to be more clinical and must use Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie with League One outfit, Hull City to polish up a ruthless streak which has been evidently missing during the opening weeks of the season.

“I know we need to bolster the defence – both of Arsenal’s goals were avoidable,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“But even without the penalty shout, we had enough clear-cut chances to have been out of sight before they picked us off at the end.

“We’ve had fourteen shots – Arsenal only had half that number, but they took their chances. We can’t keep saying how unlucky we’ve been. The players have to put it right.”

Dear continued: “Even in the last round of the cup, we should have scored more goals. Hull will provide a similar test to the one we got from Charlton. They have started their League One season well, but West Ham should have far too much for them.

“David Moyes will make changes – an opportunity for one or two to prove a point. Ultimately, we need to see players pushing for a start against Wolves on Sunday by putting in a shift against Hull. Getting the job done unsparingly will give everyone a lift and provide the confidence boost everyone connected with the club is craving at the moment.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 3-0 Hull City
