West Ham United v Everton – Premier League – London Stadium – Sunday 4:30pm – Preview
West Ham United overcame Burnley at Turf Moor – just as Brian Dear predicted they would in his Yellow Sport column – and now he’s expecting the East Londoners to deliver more of the same when Everton visit the capital on Sunday.
“It was a terrific result at Burnley – we showed resolve following the two defeats to Newcastle and Chelsea,” Dear enthused.
“It was a decent game. Michail Antonio provided further evidence of his importance to the group with another two goals. We are back in the hunt for a European place ahead of next season. The run-in suggests winnable matches – Let’s go land get it.”
Looking ahead to the clash with Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees, Dear added: “We must be confident because we are higher in the league than them and perhaps expectation levels are higher at Everton, shifting the pressure towards them.
“But when you are towards the top end of the league, you should embrace any pressure because overcoming it points towards success. We are playing some great football this season. I think we at least deserve a shot at the Europa League next season. I think all four of our remaining games are winnable. No doubt, David Moyes and the players feel the same way.
“I would imagine the club is already looking towards next season. Standards have been set and with the fans returning we must carry this forward, build on it and show some ambition to continue competing with the big clubs in the top seven of the Premier League.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 3-1 Everton
Jeevesie’s prediction: West Ham United 1-0 Everton
