West Ham United v Manchester United – Premier League – London Stadium – Sunday (7pm) – Preview

Brian Dear remains concerned that West Ham United could slip into the relegation places despite his former club holding a four points advantage over the Premier League’s bottom three.

The Hammers followed last weekend’s disappointing 4-3 defeat at Crystal Palace with a 3-0 defeat at leaders Manchester City. Dear insisted there was little in the way of positivity coming out of either encounter for the East Londoners.

“We scored from three set pieces at Palace and defended okay for the first half against City. Other than that, no points and nothing to get excited about,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“We still have a European semi-final as well as four league matches. The players look shattered and lacking confidence. It is a massive worry.

“The Premier League is where we want to be, but we can’t be reliant on those below us to keep losing. Someone will put on a spurt. We’ve got to find a win from somewhere but It’s hard to see where?”

The Hammers take on Manchester United at teh London Stadium on Sunday. United suffered a late defeat at Brighton during the week, hampering their quest for a top-four finish.

“They were awful at Brighton but I can’t think they’ll be that bad two games in a row,” Dear added.

“We usually have decent games with Manchester United and have come out on top a few times too. This one will be vital. We need to stop the rot that has set in this past week. The players need to stand up and be counted. The manager needs to be brave.

“Staying up remains in our own hands, but that can change pretty quickly. I’ve no doubt there will be changes during the summer. Nevertheless, it is up to this group to ensure their lasting legacy isn’t a relegation on their CV, whether they win a European trophy or not.

“With that in mind, I’d like to think the players realise the seriousness of the situation and are about to rectify it. Starting on Sunday night.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 2-1 Manchester United
