West Ham United v Genk – UEFA Europa League – London Stadium – Thursday (8pm) – Preview
Brian Dear insisted West Ham United are in the best possible shape ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League tie with Genk at the London Stadium.
The Hammers returned to Premier League action with a solid, single-goal victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, and with a big local derby against Tottenham Hotspur hovering just over the horizon, their former frontman thinks David Moyes’ men are well-equipped for the challenges ahead.
“It wasn’t a pretty one at Everton, but I didn’t think we ever really looked like losing,” Dear told Yellow Sport
“We looked sound defensively, won the majority of the midfield battles, but perhaps could have been a bit sharper up front, particularly during the first fifteen minutes.
“It has set us up nicely for the European game and them Tottenham – Exciting times!
“Thursday will be another great occasion. Our fans love the Europa games under the lights. I think we have the measure of Genk. they have been a bit hit and miss in the Belgian league and were comfortably beaten by Dinamo Zagreb last time out in Europe. It’s a game we should win and I fully expect us to, taking another step towards qualification.”
Dear added: “We look capable of winning in different ways. We have a plan-B these days. The squad has some style, but can also win ugly if necessary.
“I’m sure everyone is looking forward to what’s coming up. It’s a measure of where West Ham are that we are confident in taking on and succeeding. The mindset has changed – the dynamics exciting.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 3-0 Genk
