West Ham United v Crystal Palace – Premier League – London Stadium – Saturday 3pm – Preview
Brian Dear is delighted with what he has seen from West Ham United at the start of the new Premier League season but insists that David Moyes will need reinforcements if the Hammers are to maintain and challenge on all fronts throughout the campaign.
Dear, along with the majority amongst the 60,000 London Stadium crowd, was thrilled with the Hammers Monday night performance as a highly-rated Leicester City side were blitzed by four goals to one.
“It was absolutely brilliant,” Dear told Yellow Sport.
“The stadium was rocking. It was arguably our best display since moving to the London Stadium. A marker has been put down and we are all excited as to how far this team could go if David Moyes is able to continue developing it.
“Michail Antonio deservedly surpassed Paolo Di Canio’s Premier League record. Said Benrahma continues to grow as a topflight footballer, while Pablo Fornals is becoming a cult hero too.
“I think we need to bolster defensively and perhaps add another forward. It will be difficult to compete, particularly in Europe, if we don’t have enough strength in depth. Kurt Zouma has been linked. We need to get a couple of deals done. We seem far more diligent transfer-wiser under Moyes. He will do the right thing.”
West Ham now entertain a Crystal Palace side without a Premier League win and who slipped out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Watford on Tuesday evening: “As a West Ham supporter, I always have an air of caution hanging over me,” Dear added.
“But the football we have produced has been fantastic during pre-season and the early weeks of the season. Would be full of confidence. It’s a nice pressure to have.
“Patrick Vieira has identified the key issues with his team. Whether he has enough time to do anything about it before Saturday remains to be seen. But we should be winning this game well and I fully expect us to do exactly that.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 3-0 Crystal Palace
Jeevesie’s prediction: West Ham United 2-0 Crystal Palace
