West Ham United v Arsenal – Premier League – London Stadium – Sunday 3pm – Preview
Brian Dear expects to see an altogether more positive approach from West Ham United when capital rivals, Arsenal visit the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Despite an all-round improvement, the Hammers were criticised following last Sunday’s defeat at Manchester United, with some experts suggesting the East Londoners were still a little wary when facing the bigger clubs.
However, with those comments ringing in their ears, Dear believes the Hammers will play a little more on the front-foot against teh North Londoners.
“It’s about taking the next step now,” Dear told Yellow Sport.
“It’s no good sitting on the fringes of a European place but not having the confidence to go for it. I think I’d rather die trying as opposed to wondering ‘what if’ at the end of the season.
“I’m not going to criticise David Moyes and the players too much, after all, they have been fantastic this season. But we need to give these teams something to think about, Have a go at them. I certainly think we have the players capable of doing that.”
Looking ahead to Arsenal, Dear added; “I know they will be boosted by winning the North London derby. But to be honest, Tottenham didn’t perform well.
“Arsenal are tenth in the table for a reason. They are not a consistent side. It’s all very well beating your local rivals, but if you can’t back it up by regularly beating the provincial sides in the league, then you are just treading water.
“Arsenal is a big club, but this has been the case for a little while now. Of course, the have some very good players, but they aren’t anything to be feared.
“West Ham offered a little more at Old Trafford when Said Benrahma and Manuel Lanzini came on. Jesse Lingard couldn’t play due to the terms of his loan. I’d expect two of them to feature from the start against Arsenal. I think we have enough about us to learn and bounce back with a win on Sunday.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 2-1 Arsenal
Jeevesie’s prediction: West Ham United 1-1 Arsenal
