Dear expects Hammers to prioritise City trip

SK Rapid Vienna v West Ham United – UEFA Europa League – Allianz Stadion – Thursday (5:15pm) – Preview

Brian Dear is expecting David Moyes to prioritise Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City over Thursday night’s Europa League trip to Vienna.

West Ham United have already secured their qualification to the knockout stages and after appearing somewhat ‘leggy’ during last weekends single-goal defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, Dear believes some of the Scotsman’s international stars will be provided with a few extra days of rest and recuperation.

“Man City will be hard enough as it is, without going there with an empty tank,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“The Rapid Vienna match provides an opportunity to get minutes into some of the squad players. I think the manager will have the same thoughts.

“The Wolves game highlighted the need for a larger squad. Some of the players coming back from international duty looked particularly tired. I know Wolves played well and got at us – they deserved to win – but I’ve no doubt Moyes will be looking to add at least three quality players to the squad in January. It’s all a part of the process when you are trying to compete on all fronts.”

Dear added: “Of course, we have to take the game seriously because of the prestige of the tournament. But our fringe players are up to the task. I’m confident they can put up a show in Vienna.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: Rapid Vienna 2-2 West Ham United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Rapid Vienna 0-1 West Ham United
