Dear fearful of a blue day for Hammers

West Ham United v Chelsea – Premier League – London Stadium – Saturday (12:30pm) – Preview

Brian Dear cut was a frustrated figure following West Ham United’s 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion and doesn’t believe the Hammers performance bodes well ahead of Chelsea’s jaunt across the capital to the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Neal Maulpay’s late goal for the Seagulls extended the Hammers winless sequence to three matches and Dear thinks it’s difficult to see hos former club ended that particular sequence against the title-chasing Blues.

“I’d love to be proved wrong, but I can’t see us getting anything from the game,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“I know that this group of players have a little more resilience than squads of the past, but we look tired and off the pace at the moment.

“I’d hoped the Brighton game signalled a return to winning ways. It was certainly the sort of game we need to be winning if we are serious about another top-seven finish. We need to find our second wind, and pretty sharp!”

Leaders, Chelsea were unconvincing in beating Watford during the week. Indeed, boss, Thomas Tuchel told BBC Sport: “We were not ready for this game.

“We are to blame. We never found the right attitude. We were very lucky to escape with the win.”

“Unfortunately, we don’t seem to be in the right place to take advantage at the moment,” Dear added.

“I thought Michail Antonio should have made way instead of Said Benrahma. He looked shattered throughout the game. We need him to come good against Chelsea. We need some sort of threat.

The former frontman concluded: “I guess, like any Hammers fan, I’m frustrated because the games against Wolves and Brighton particularly are opportunities. We have missed them and now need to find a big performance from somewhere against one of the title favourites.

“As I said, I’d love the boys to prove otherwise, but I’ve I think Chelsea have too much for us at the moment.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 0-3 Chelsea
