Dear fearful of a Haaland hammering

Manchester City v West Ham United – Premier League – Etihad Stadium – Wednesday (8pm) – Preview

Former West Ham United striker Brian Dear is fearful that the East Londoners could be in for a torrid evening when they face Premier League leaders Manchester City and their fifty-goal frontman Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

Dear was unimpressed with the Hammers’ defending during Saturday’s 4-3 defeat at Crystal Palace: “It was schoolboy stuff at times. If we replicate that at City on Wednesday, it will be an embarrassing scoreline,” he told Yellow Sport.

“Palace have struggled for goals this season but they pulled us apart at the back, just as Newcastle did. Nobody stood up to be counted. Nobody took responsibility. We are not out of relegation trouble. This is very worrying.”

On the trip to the North West, Dear added: “I really can’t see how we are going to stop them. Haaland is on fire, but they have so much talent. They are better than us, They are on course for the title. If we try to play football against them, they will destroy us, if we sit back, they will swamp us. I don’t know what we are going to do, but I think I know what to expect.

“We still need at least one more win, possibly two, to make us safe. On the evidence of what we saw at Selhurst Park, I can’t see where those wins are coming from?”

Brian Dear’s prediction: Manchester City 5-1 West Ham United
