Dear; Hammers are set up nicely for United test

West Ham United v Manchester United – Premier League – London Stadium – Saturday 5:30pm – Preview

Five victories from eight Premier League outings – fifth in the table – Brian Dear believes it’s the perfect time for West Ham United to face Manchester United.

The Hammers host the Red Devils on Saturday evening with both sides heading into the match off the back of three straight league victories.

“We are going really well at the moment – the game management has been executed superbly – now we have an opportunity to step it up,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“We’ve needed to grind out results recently, but nine points suggest we have evolved and no longer look like a soft touch when the going gets tough.

“Manchester United will offer a sterner test than Fulham, Sheffield and Villa. But much like the game on Monday evening, we will have to work hard, often without the ball, and create chances on the break.

Dear continued: “We are seeing more and more teams concede possession but win the game by ruthlessly taking their chances. Down the road, Tottenham are top of the league using similar tactics. As long as we take something from the game, its ok by me.

“Perhaps we were a little bit lucky against Villa, but luck comes and goes – take it while its there and move on. I thought David Moyes got it spot-on tactically. It was good to see Said Benramha make an immediate impact after coming on at half-time. He is starting to show glimpses of what is required from a Premier League footballer.

Turning the attention back to Manchester United, Dear added: “It’s always a special occasion when they visit. I was lucky enough to play against them back in the days of Charlton, Law and Best. The players change but the name is still special.

“And that should be enough to fire anyone up. It’s a big opportunity to take something from a team everyone expects to be around the top six come the end of the season. Personally, I think we’ve got a great chance of doing exactly that.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 1-1 Manchester United
