Dear insistent Hammers can stifle Spurs’ progress

Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United – Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Sunday 4:30pm – Preview

Brian Dear is looking forward to West Ham United’s trip across town to face old adversaries Tottenham Hotspur.

The Hammers head north of the capital in a bit of form, with momentum and confidence as well as a brighter position in the Premier League. However, they face a Spurs side themselves in decent nick, strengthening handsomely during the transfer window and extending their unbeaten league sequence to three with a resounding 6-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

“It’s unusual for both sides to be in-form ahead of the derby,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“I don’t think anyone can argue that Tottenham has had a geat transfer window with Gareth Bale, Matt Doherty, Joe Hart, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Sergio Reguilon and Carlos Vinicius all arriving. Although we’ve not been quite as busy, tying down Tomas Soucek and adding Vladimir Coufal has definitely been a boost. And with Said Benrahma looking likely to be through the door before Sunday, I think we can go there an compete with a side some are now tipping as potential champions.

Dear continued: “We didn’t just beat Wolves and Leicester, we thrashed them – that must have opened a few eyes. It certainly confirmed that our starting eleven is as good as anyone.

“The squad needs a bit more depth. I think defensively, bringing in Craig Dawson was decent business. He’s not the future, I know. But he’s experienced, knows his way around the Premier League, and will fill a hole which needs plugging.

Returning the focus to the clash in N17, Dear added: “Tottenham have a super side and are challenging on all fronts for a trophy. But I think we’ve shown enough before the international break to confirm that on our day there isn’t much in it. I think we can get a point from the game and that’s what I’m predicting.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 West Ham United
