Liverpool v West Ham United – Premier League – Anfield – Saturday 5:30pm – Preview
Four Premier League matches without defeat following positive results against notable opposition has made Brian Dear a very happy Hammer indeed.
And the former frontman believes teh Hammers can now head to champions Liverpool, genuinely believing they can take something from what is usually a fruitless trip to the North-West.
“Once again, why not?” Dear told Yellow Sport.
“We were terrific all over the pitch against Manchester City. I thought we were the better side in the first half, then defended superbly when City threatened after their equaliser. No sign of that soft underbelly which West Ham are so often labelled with.
“There were so many good performances. Lukasz Fabianski, Declan Rice, Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen – I could name all of them – it was a really professional team performance taking us to eight points from Wolves, Leicester, Spurs and now City. Why can’t we add to that at Anfield?”
“Dear continued: “Of course, I know West Ham have only won once at Liverpool in something like sixty-years, but that doesn’t mean its impossible.
“I think we have the attacking players that can upset them and give them something to think about. We will have to be switched on at the back, just as we were in the second half against City. But I’m hoping we can go there without fear – put the pressure firmly on Liverpool, which it already largely is.
“People have started to take note of West Ham lately. David Moyes is starting to put his own stamp on the squad and the players are responding.
“I know we are not the finished article – nowhere near. But I’m enjoying what I’ve seen from this group and I’m intrigued to see how far we can go.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: Liverpool 1-1 West Ham United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Liverpool 2-1 West Ham United
