Dear looking forward to Hammers homecoming

West Ham United v Burnley – Premier League – London Stadium – Sunday (2:15pm) – Preview

It should prove to be a special homecoming for West Ham United’s Europa League heroes when they entertain Burnley at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Hammers overcome the odds to dispatch Olympique Lyonnais by three unanswered goals at the Groupama Stadium, setting up a mouthwatering semi-final clash with Eintracht Frankfurt and Brian Dear believes it has provided just the tonic to see David Moyes’ men through a particularly tricky stage of the season.

“It was a brilliant night,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“Of course, all the focus has to go toward Burnley now. They are battling for their lives towards the bottom and will be the wounded animal following the departure of Sean Dyche. But the win in Lyon has given everyone a huge lift.

“I think the team will receive a wonderful welcome from the fans. Everyone has got their second wind. The atmosphere should be electric.”

Dear continued: “This is a game we need to be targeting for three points and I fully expect us to get them. We must still be aiming to finish as high up the Premier League as we possibly can. Don’t put all our eggs in one basket with the Europa League because nothing is certain.

“Burnley are in a bit of a hole but proved recently against Everton that they still have a bit of fight in them. I’m not sure the sacking of Dyche will be seen as a positive by either the fans or the players. But we can only concentrate on ourselves.

“We have six league matches left and for those games immediately in front of us must utilise the energy from the Europa League win positively.

“There is still plenty to play for on two fronts. The players and fans need each other more than ever to lift each other and ensure a successful outcome in just over a month.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 4-1 Burnley
