Aston Villa v West Ham United – Premier League – Villa Park – Wednesday 8:15pm – Preview
Brian Dear didn’t want to dwell upon West Ham United’s Premier League defeat at the hands of Liverpool for too long.
Instead, the former frontman focused on the positives gleaned throughout the campaign and urged the Hammers players to use Liverpool as a yardstick for the next level.
“The best team won,” Dear confessed.
“We defended reasonably well for an hour, but their class told. We are getting better, with that there is no doubt. But we are not up to Liverpool’s level yet.
“But that doesn’t mean we are coming up short. It just realistically, top ten, not top six, is our aim and that is well within our grasp.”
Dear continued: “The games before Liverpool display how we have positively evolved under David Moyes. We have learned to win games in different ways and I expect we will win more than we lose which in itself is a step forward in comparison to recent seasons.”
West Ham head to Villa Park on Wednesday evening: “I see Villa as a similar case to ourselves,” Dear added.
“They are looking to establish themselves in the Premier League. Find their feet as a top ten team before looking at the next stage. It’s much the same as us.
“It will be a tough game. Villa has come on leaps and bounds this season and have some great players. But when you fall off your bike, you must get straight back on it. I think it will be a good game and I expect us to bring something back to with us.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: Aston Villa 2-2 West Ham United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Aston Villa 1-1 West Ham United
