Dear urges Hammers to bounce back

West Ham United v Leeds United – Premier League – London Stadium – Monday 8pm – Preview

Despite slipping to a narrow defeat, West Ham United produced a decent performance at the Etihad Stadium, giving Premier League champions-elect, Manchester City plenty to think about before the leaders eventually recorded their twentieth successive victory in all competitions.

Nevertheless, Brian Dear has urged the Hammers players to swiftly regain focus and build the momentum which has taken the East Londoners into contention for a European berth following an otherwise consistent run of form.

“There was plenty to be positive about after Manchester City,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“We didn’t see too much of the ball – that was to be expected. But we matched them reasonably well and I was actually disappointed that we didn’t take something from the game and end their superb run.

“Once again, this is a sign of how far West Ham have come this season. This momentum at the club must not be allowed to diminish. We must continue to build now. Finish as high in the league as we can. The bar has been set.”

Leeds United are net up at the London Stadium: “A tough test, but one I expect us to come through,” Dear added.

“Leeds are all-action but have been a little erratic, form-wise. They like to play on the front foot, which sometimes leaves them vulnerable and open.

“But it’s good to see a newly-promoted team having a go. Leeds won’t go down and once they have the fans back in and behind them, I think results will improve because they give them a tremendous lift.

“But I’m all about West Ham. I think we have too much for them at the moment. Perhaps a little more streetwise? If both teams play to their potential, it should shape up to be a very good contest. However, I expect us to take the points and keep the pressure on the top four.

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 3-1 Leeds United
