West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur – Premier League – London Stadium – Wednesday (7:45pm) – Preview

Brian Dear was delighted to see West Ham United pick up their first Premier League points of the season, but is fully aware that the East Londoners are still in transition as they look to recover following a tough start to the season.

Pablo Fornals’ deflected strike secured three priceless points at Villa Park on Sunday: “It wasn’t an easy watch, but we won,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“We looked better after half-time. The manager changed the system. I thought we were the only side likely to win it after half-time.

“The three points give us something to build on and we got another boost with the signing of Lucas Paquet√°. I doubt he will be ready to face Tottenham, but at least we are starting to look a little more balanced.”

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s clash with Spurs, Dear added: “As much as I want to see West Ham win, I also have to be honest.

“This one might have come a bit too early for us. Tottenham are winning without playing at their best. It’s a good trait to have. Antonio Conte has installed a belief at the club. I know they are still short of the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, but they are top-four contenders again.

“The quality Spurs have in attack can trouble any team. They are unbeaten at the moment and come to the London Stadium as favourites.

“I do not doubt that our supporters will be right up for the game. It doesn’t matter who we are playing, they back the team. But the team need to go up a couple of gears to get something from this one.

“We know that these players are capable. We have upset Spurs in the past and can do it again. But at teh moment, I think they might nick this one. I’m urging our boys to go out there and prove me wrong. I’ll gladly accept that.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur
