West Ham United v Crystal Palace – Premier League – London Stadium – Wednesday 8pm – Preview
Brian Dear was pleasantly surprised by West Ham United performance at Elland Road and delighted that his Yellow Sport prediction proved wrong as the Hammers came from behind to record their sixth Premier League victory of the season.
David Moyes’ side adopted a pressing game, throwing plenty of bodies forward in a bid to expose a busy, but naive Leeds side. And that paid dividends as Tomas Soucek and Angelo Ogbonna profited from set-piece routines to secure the three points.
And now it’s on to the next one. West Ham faces a Crystal Palace side similar in style to that of Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit but perhaps offering a little more nous defensively.
“It was a terrific performance and result on Friday night,” Dear enthused.
“If I’m over-critical, I think we should have won by a bigger margin, but hey, three points at Leeds can’t be sniffed at.
“It’s now important that we keep up the momentum. Crystal Palace has always been an attack-minded side and they will come to us buoyed by their performance against Spurs on Sunday.
“They were inspired by the performance of goalkeeper, Vicente Guaita – we could do without him having another game like that. But Palace has great attacking players as well. Christian Benteke got back amongst the goals recently, while Wilfried Zaha’s threat is immense. They will give us plenty to think about.”
Dear continued: “But again, our own achievement can’t be overlooked. We were very impressive last time out. Everyone put in a shift – everyone is buying into what the manager is laying down.
“For me, Crystal Palace and Leeds are very similar. Perhaps Palace’s Premier League experience gives them the edge, but I still think we have a little more quality and that will shine through on Wednesday night.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 3-1 Crystal Palace
Jeevesie’s prediction: West Ham United 2-1 Crystal Palace
