Dear’s hoping Hammers have the legs
West Ham United v Leeds United – Premier League – London Stadium – Sunday (2pm) – Preview
The games are coming thick and fast for West Ham United at this moment in time.
Fourth in the Premier League, an Emirates FA Cup fourth round ties at non-league Kidderminster Harriers to look forward to, and that’s without thinking about the East Londoners return to UEFA Europa League action in two months time.
“I just hope we don’t run out of steam,” former Hammers frontman, Brian Dear told Yellow Sport.
“We’ve bounced back well after losing to Southampton on Boxing Day. Nine points out of nine in the Premier League and getting through in the cup. David Moyes and the team has done really well.
“We had to be patient against Norwich, and to some extent Leeds last week. Both defended deeply and in numbers. I guess we have developed a reputation and teams will do anything they can to frustrate us.
“But we stuck at it. Got the goals. As it stands, that old saying that West Ham comes down with the Christmas decorations is again holding little weight. Of course, winning a competition is going to be difficult. The squad is still quite thin in comparison to the big four or five teams, but we are competing. Getting to the latter stages and staying in the race is a step forward.”
West Ham welcome Leeds to the London Stadium for the second weekend in a row: “The personnel in both camps will change slightly but I still see us winning the game,” Dear added.
“Usually, Leeds are an all-action side but tend to burn out after towards the end of games. I didn’t see that from them last week, but I’d wager it will be back this time. In the past, we have simply had to stay in the match because Leeds like to start at a furious pace. That’s what I think we’ll see on Sunday.”
Dear concluded: “But again, going forward I think we are better than them at the moment. I fancy us to score goals and believe we have enough about us to see a game out.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 1-0 Leeds United
Jeevesie’s prediction: West Ham United 2-0 Leeds United
