Milton Keynes Dons v Southend United – Sky Bet League One – Stadium MK – Saturday (3pm)
Milton Keynes Dons v Southend United – Preview:
GARY WADDOCK admitted his continued concern over Southend United’s defensive woes.
Southend has already conceded 24 Sky Bet League One goals this season and face a difficult task to plug the holes when they travel to Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday – a side which has already plundered four past the beleaguered Blues in the Carabao Cup.
“In the last two games we’ve got six goals, picked up one point but on the flip side of that, we have conceded seven which is obviously very disappointing,” Waddock bemoaned to www.southendunited.co.uk.
“You have to be able to defend, you have to have a solid base and mistakes have cost us dear on Tuesday evening.”
Waddock suggested individuals needed to up their game and that tactically, nothing would change until the players became displayed greater resolve.
“It’s individual mistakes so you can change the formation as much as you like your still going to make mistakes in whatever formation you use,” he continued.
“You just have to be responsible for your actions and make sure you limit the mistakes and give ourselves a chance in the game.
“Football is about mistakes and the opposition capitalise on that and it’s costing us, dear – so we’ve got to try and take them out of our game then concentrate more on what we have been doing on the top end of the pitch.”
Waddock might be handed a boost with Mark Milligan, John White, Timothy Dieng and Nathan Ralph all in contention following recent injuries.
Meanwhile, mid-table Dons have injury issues of their own, with Rhys Healey, Baily Cargill, Joe Mason, Jordan Moore-Taylor and Ben Reeves all unlikely to feature.
